Across the Rydale valley lies the western spur of the Fairfield Horseshoe, with Great Rigg prominent in the centre of the picture, Heron Pike off the left of the picture, and Fairfield off the right. On the horizon, from the left, are: Pike o'Blisco; Cold Pike and the high ground to Crinkle Crags, Great Knott can be seen in front of this high ground; the two most prominent of the tops of Crinkle Crags and, less distinctly, some of the others; the gap at Three Tarns; the dramatic cone of Bowfell with Harrison Stickle, Pike o'Stickle and Thunacar Knott in front; Scafell; Scafell Pike with Esk Pike in front; Great End with High Raise in front, just beyond Great Rigg; the gap at Sty Head; Great Gable; Red Pike; Scoat Fell and Black Crag with Glaramara in front; Pillar; Brandreth; High Crag and High Stile.
