The grassy slope leading to the viewer's left from the top of Haycock, at a slope of about 30 degrees, provides a comfortable descent. The direct route, via Gowder Crag, looks unpleasant at best, uncharted, and possibly dangerous. The crest of Little Gowder Crag appears on the left.
